About our Speaker

Ric Cheeks, CPL, CLTD, CDGP, LSSBB

A San Diego native and third generation shipbuilder, Ric has worked as a supply chain professional for over 20 years. Currently, he works as an industrial engineer for General Dynamics NASSCO (National Steel and Shipbuilding Company) in the area of continuous improvement for the entire organization. He also teaches for the ASCM San Diego Chapterís education programs as an instructor, and also sits on their board of directors as the Director of Education for Logistics Programs.


Ric Cheeks, CPL, CLTD, CDGP,
LSSBB

He first served as an intern at NASSCO back in 1998, while still completing his studies at the California Maritime Academy, and returned nearly fifteen years later to fill a role as a logistician after having spent most of his career in global logistics management in the maritime industry. While at NASSCO, Ric has overseen the administration of its foreign trade zone status and helped the organization navigate tariffs imposed on steel and goods of Chinese origin. Ric also serves as a subject matter expert for the transportation of dangerous goods and project cargo.

Ric holds the Certified Professional Logistician designation from the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transportation, the Certified in Logistics, Transportation and Distribution professional certification from the Association of Supply Chain Management, the Certified Dangerous Goods Professional designation from the Institute of Hazardous Materials Management, as well as a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt from the University of California San Diego.

He has earned undergraduate degrees in International Business, Business Administration, and Economics from the California State University System, which included a minor in Asian Studies as well as a language concentration in French. He also has earned a Diplôme de Français des Affaires 1er degré from the Université Grenoble Alpes in Grenoble, France. Currently, Ric is completing his Masters of Business Administration in Supply Chain Management and Logistics from National University.
